I just checked out the blog of an old friend (Miss Cindy!!) and received a pump of excitement. She has reached her intermediate goal weight! This is very exciting. Yes, mainly for her, but it is very exciting for me, as well. I have not been good about my diet or tracking caloric intake for the last couple of weeks, and it's showing. But, seeing Cindy's accomplishment is definitely a motivator.
What I need to do now is get my act (back) together (which includes cleaning off my desk at home, cleaning the house from top to bottom, sorting out my clothes so I know where all of my workout stuff is, and getting the pantry in order for healthy stuff) and get my new workout plan worked out. I did pick up the group exercise schedule at the gym. I'm thinking of trying the Cycle 60 class (because I hate myself) and the Fitness Yoga/Pilates classes. If nothing else, it will give me a chance to change things up every now and then to really kick my ass.
I've been doing a lot of reading about metabolic rates and ways to keep the body from adjusting not only to the exercise that you are doing, but to you caloric intake as well. Research has shown that the body adjusts to the exercise that you do if you do the same thing for a while, so it makes sense that your metabolism would do the same thing if you eat the same amount of food every day for a while. Knowing that it takes a deficit of 3500 calories to lose one pound of fat, if you reduce your caloric intake during a week by 3500 or 7000 calories through a combination of exercise and diet but keep the number of calories that you eat each day of the week just a bit different (e.g. 1200 on Monday, 1500 on Tuesday, 1300 on Wednesday, 1600 on Thursday, 1200 on Friday, 1400 on Saturday, and 1700 on Sunday), you are still creating a deficit and keeping your metabolism on it's toes so that it doesn't slow down to accommodate the lower caloric intake. It's just one theory, but it makes sense to me!
Well, that's all for now, folks. Here's one more congratulations to Cindy for reaching that goal!
