Okay, I've found another race and have worked up a training program (thanks to www.runnersworld.com) to get ready. This one is the Kansas City Zoo's Race for the Frogs. They host a 4 mile run every year to raise money for varying animal related causes. A couple of years ago it was for elephant sanctuaries...
That's right, I said 4 miles. I know, it sounds odd to me, too... But, I have a great training opportunity that just so happens to fall on my scheduled 4 mile training day - the American Stroke Foundation's annual Walk on the Wildside fundraiser. The ASF is a Kansas City based non-profit organization that works with stroke survivors and their care-givers after insurance has stopped helping. They do amazing work, and I highly encourage everyone to check out their website and make a donation (if you can).
My husband's grandmother started the Foundation shortly after his grandfather passed away following multiple debilitating strokes. They were lucky enough to have the financial resources to have private care, but most people aren't so fortunate.
So, on September 6th, before going to the airport to fly to Oregon for a visit with the fam, we are all going out to Shawnee Mission Park to show our support. It just so happens that the event is a four mile walk/run. I'll leave Kyle with Michael (or Grandma Robbie or Great-Grandma Sugie) and run the course to get my training in for the day. Yea! I won't have to worry about mapping that training day out in Mt. Angel...
BTW... I never realized until this afternoon just how small my mom's town is. I was having a hard time mapping out training runs that were long enough without making multiple loops. I'll have to devote more time to that over the weekend...
Goodnight!
